Sept 7th 2009: The 2009 North American County Board GAA playing season came to a close in great style as thousands of football, hurling and camogie fans from around the country packed Boston's Irish Cultural Center in south suburban Canton over the Labor Day weekend for the national championships playoffs
While the junior "B" championship wasn't as competitive as last year when two games went into overtime there were several close contests. San Diego Setanta proved to be the best team in the competition defeating Detroit Wolfe Tones in the final to win their third junior "B" title. Their previous wins were in 2004 and 2007.

Aug 31st 2009: For the 5th straight year Setanta will be sending two teams to the Finals entering Junior B and Junior C competitions
Boston's Irish Cultural Center in suburban Canton will be the site of this year's North American County Board GAA annual championship playoffs over the Labor Day weekend.
Following the conclusion of most of the divisional championships over the past couple of weeks, the following cities will be represented in the playoffs - Allentown Pa, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Frederick MD, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland MN, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC.

MEN'S JUNIOR "B" FOOTBALL This championship is always the most competitive men's competition of the playoffs as several one club cities are striving for success. Eight teams are competing for this year's title including past winners, Cleveland St. Jarlath's, Detroit Wolfe Tones and San Diego Setanta. Chicago Patriots who won the "C" championship in 2008 move up to this level for the first time as does LA Wild Geese. Boston representatives will be Shannon Blues while St. Patrick's will represent the Philadelphia division.
MEN'S JUNIOR "C" FOOTBALL The junior ‘C" division which was started in 2003 contributed to the ongoing promotion of Gaelic football for American born players over age for the youth program. With an NACB rule in place that only American born players could play in this C championship in the four major cities several hundred American born players contributed to the formation of new teams in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco. However, a rule change this year that prohibits Irish sanction player from playing with any team resulted in the junior "C" competition being split into two divisions, 1) with sanctions, 2) without sanctions. Just 2 teams, Boston and Philadelphia, will compete in the "no-sanction" division while there will be two semi-finals in the "with sanctions" division with the following draw: Washington DC Vs Denver and San Diego Vs Austin.

Aug 20th 2009: Last chance for players to put their names in for one of the All Ireland Football tickets. Email any board member to put your name in the draw. The club received two stand tickets this year costing $100 each

Aug 15th 2009: Congratulations to Setanta stalwart, Dr. Declan McCole who finally tied the knot on August 15th in Pasadena after 11 years courtin!!!

Aug 9th 2009: Setanta regained the Chris O'Shea Memorial Trophy in style against the Wild Geese at Manhattan Beach. Making amends for the poor performance on July 11th, Setanta started strong with goals scored by the two Conors...Hughes and Smith sending Setanta onto a 3-18 to 1-11 victory. This win places Setanta as the number 1 seed from the Southwest division for the National Finals in Boston

July 26th 2009: Setanta welcomed the Celtic Cowboys from the Texas state Capital, Austin. Some say Austin is the second best city to visit in the USA after San Diego, so Setanta will be looking forward to returning the favor in 2010. As soon as Austin landed they were shuttled to La Jolla to play the Setanta Junior C team. In a good game, some poor defensive errrors and some poor shooting left Setanta with an uphill struggle against the more experienced Texans. In the end, Austin ran out deserved victors but both these teams will meet again at the North American Finals in Boston during Labor Day weekend

July 12th 2009: Setanta played the Los Angeles Wild Geese twice in the last two weeks. First game was played at home in La Jolla and yet again Setanta came away winners to continue the unbeaten home streak against the Wild Geese. Things were a different matter on July 11th when Setanta travelled to Manhattan Beach. With an absolutely shocking first half performace, Setanta were 12 points down at half time. Surely the worst Setanta performance in along time. Second half was a different matter. Showing heart with a lashing of direct football, Setanta made a comeback and just failed by 2 points to reel in the first half deficit.

June 20th 2009: Well done to all the Setanta players who travelled to Irvine for the Los Angeles 7's tournament. After temperatures soared to over 100f at last years event, everyone was glad to have a cloudy day this year! . So a beautiful day for football. Setanta entered two teams with one getting to the semi final and the other losing the final after extra time. It was a great days football as each team got 4 games minimum.
